Heirloom Apple Varieties
Glockenapfel
Of Central European origin, this apple variety is widely grown in Germany and Switzerland today. It is known best as a cooking apple as it retains its notable bell shape and maintains a sharp and pleasant flavor. It has a refreshing lemon bite when eaten out of hand. This is a favorite apple for strudel across many European countries. The tree is vigorous and scab resistant, and the fruit keeps extremely well given the correct conditions. The apple is red-streaked over green with a white juicy flesh. We pick in early October.
