Heirloom Apple Varieties
Franc Rambour
Rambour is a French name given to a group of varieties characterized by large size and a ribbed, flat-sided shape. Rambour Franc is the best known and oldest of these, believed to have been from the village of Rambure. Recorded in 1535 by French botanist Jean Ruel, and known in England around 1665. Widely grown throughout Europe and still found in French gardens. Large fruit, green with red stripes. Breaking, crisp, exceptionally juicy, aromatic flesh. Good for eating and sauce. Harvests late August to September.
