Heirloom Apple Varieties
Chenango Strawberry
An apple originating from New York in the mid 1800’s, though some may argue it was brought to New York via settlers from Connecticut. It is crisp, juicy and sweet. Some say it gets its berry name from the shape and color, while others say they taste a distinct strawberry flavor. Best for fresh eating. This is an early ripening variety; we have a very limited crop and usually sell out quickly; get in touch in mid-late August to see if we’ve begun harvest. If you are considering planting an early variety at home, Chenango Strawberry is a good choice due to its hardiness and staged ripening, allowing the grower to process the fruit over the course of weeks rather than days.
