Heirloom Apple Varieties
Bethel
This Vermont heirloom is named for the town of its origin. It is thought to be a seed from a Blue Pearmain, as the Bethel apple resembles it closely but for its red color. Like the Blue Pearmain, it is great for eating out of hand as well as cooking. Importantly for us in the north, the tree is rather cold hardy and scab resistant, and is a winter variety that stores well. Very rare. Harvests late September.
