Heirloom Apple Varieties

Reinette Clochard

Origin France, perhaps first noted in the mid 1880’s. Clochard translates to the English word for “tramp,” or vagrant. One might imagine the tree is rather cold-hardy and resilient. The flesh is fine textured, crisp and yellowish, subacid and aromatic. Flavor ranges on the sweet tart. The skin is greenish yellow speckled with a rough russet, though some sources do not note the apple as being russetted. We harvest late October.
