Heirloom Apple Day

Held Annually on the Sunday of Columbus Day Weekend

Every year, Scott Farm welcomes visitors of all ages from near and far for Heirloom Apple Day, held on the Sunday of Columbus Day weekend.  We open our event room in the Apple Barn for an heirloom apple tasting celebration. Orchard Manager Ezekiel Goodband entertains and educates guests with the enlightening history of the orchard and some of its 125 varieties of ecologically-grown fruits.

Heirloom Apple Talks & Tastings

As people sample a selection of Old World and Early American heirloom apples–such as Blue Permain, a New England apple dating back to the 1700’s, mentioned by Henry David Thoreau in his journal; and Reine de Reinette, a French apple from the 1700s, considered the best hard cider apple in Normandy–Zeke shares the history and lore of these rare apple varieties.

What was Thomas Jefferson’s favorite apple?  What does a Sheep’s Nose apple taste like? What was Julia Child’s favorite cooking apple? Join us on Sunday, October 7, 2018 for the 16th Annual Heirloom Apple Day to find out, and to sample the unique flavors of some of these historic apples. After the free talks and tastings, fill a bag with some of your favorites to take home along with our famous heirloom cider, all available for purchase.

Pick Your Own Apples & Shop in The Farm Market

Come celebrate with us, rain or shine, as we showcase many of the over 125 varieties we grow here on the farm– fresh, baked and squeezed!   Free tastings and apple lore at 10 a.m., 12 noon and 2 p.m. Pick-Your-Own apples with the family, or purchase some in the Farm Market open from Labor Day until the day before Thanksgiving.
